She did not believe that it would do her any good and yet she was afraid to confirm her presumed status–by her arm going through someone’s body as it was never there. Her reaction has two components, one natural (trust me on that) and another culturally conditioned. She could have been a skeptical atheist, but the reaction would be uncannily similar.

Pity that the part of the clip at the beginning got chopped off by editing. She’s a psychologist, which is a fact that I consider particularly spicy in the context. Derren is simply brilliant and played her like Stradivarius violin, knowing that she no doubt had some exposure to OOB and NDE concepts.

Also she could reflect on herself going through fear, uncertainity and denial in a fast paced sequence, ending with a beginning of acceptance as her apparent invisibility convinced her that her physical sensations may be illusory. The part when she says “Oh my god, oh my god”, is that moment, even though there was a degree of it when she said “Mind my back”.

One thing is entirely missing form the show. The spa treatment not only involved the mask, but no doubt a quick induction with several posthypnotic suggestions that took care of the important aspects of the incident–going into deep hypnosis upon the funny phone sound and the immobility of her legs during the “accident” episode. That part may have been actually planted just before “accident”, but I suspect that it has been already introduced at the parlor.

Ya’ kidding, right? Her experience is nothing more than a confusion. You mean that you’d like to be in an accident for real? Well, chances are you could have an NDE experience, and it could be enlightening… or not, but not sure you would be so keen on it if your accident resulted, for instance, in a permanent paralysis of your lower extremities. Just enjoy the time that is given to you, you’ll find out what it is like when your time comes.
